Closure of Elm Park Entrance to Stanmore College
We are requesting that Stanmore College and Harrow Council permanently close the entrance to stanmore college via Elm Park Stanmore HA74AU
Why is this important?
We the residents living in Elm Park and surrounding roads, object to the major development of Stanmore college and the proposed reinstatement of the college entrance in Elm Park.
This entrance was moved from Elm Park to Old Church Road, following numerous complaints from Elm Park residents concerning the disruption caused by students and the vast amount of litter and anti social behaviour. The move to Church Road was the successful result of a lengthy campaign by the residents. To now reinstate the Elm Park entrance would represent a serious set back to the quality of life for Elm Park residents and I trust this will be considered seriously when you consult with the local police regarding the increase in anti social behaviour in recent years, in January of 2024 there has been two serious incidents, one attempted theft from a vehicle and a reported incident of criminal damage and threatening behaviour to a resident resulting in a mere temporary suspension of the student involved.
The increased footfall from college students via Elm Park is causing a nuisance, both environmental and socially, and fear of criminal damage to the residents of Elm Park and surrounding roads.
There have been road blockages due to the Stanmore College car park reaching capacity and then students block Elm Park waiting for access, this is during the week and weekends when you hire the space to external organisations.
Students wait on the road, sitting on residents garden walls, or on the pavements displaying antisocial behaviour, smoking and there have been confirmed and reported incidents of drug deals.
Resident records show instances of noise pollution, where the students drive up to the end of the road (by barriers near Sainsbury's using it as a turning circle)
They often play very loud music causing a disturbance to residents.
Students litter the street and there have been reported cases of vermin due to littering the path along Sainsbury’s is hugely littered due to college students.
There have been attempted thefts to vehicles,
Drug dealing and verbal abuse and criminal damage to residents. All of this is documented and reported to the police along with video evidence.
Students have vandalised the Bernays Garden and now local residents cannot access our tranquil park space due to the Students constant littering and Vandalism.
Students restrict pedestrian access, blocking the road walking in large intimidating groups, this has also been witnessed regularly.
More seriously the students have taken to walking in the main road rather than the pavements when they are asked to move they abuse motorist and threaten/conduct damage to vehicles.
Residents have been informed that security guards at the Stanmore College are not required to patrol Elm Park, which is a necessity given the level of antisocial behaviour.
Often when residents call the College to complain there is no response to the telephone calls.
We are asking the Stanmore College to close the Elm Park entrance permanently and immediately to safeguard the residents of Elm Park against further antisocial behaviour.
