Combat Climate Change - Create Maidenhead Great Park

There are so many reasons to keep Maidenhead Golf Club and create Maidenhead Great Park for the entire local community, young old, established in the area or recently arrived. We need to charge the council to provide us with the compelling evidence to NOT do this!

Why is this important?

Maidenhead Great Park will conserve and protect the rolling parkland that was bequeathed to the people of Maidenhead. It will help combat climate change, increase biodiversity and improve the physical and mental health of all those who live and work in this rapidly expanding town. We have a unique opportunity to create a new park in the centre of town for us all to enjoy and benefit from.

Maidenhead Great Park

• Imagine a space where you can walk, cycle, run, play, relax and engage in community activities.
• An un-spoilt green area where you can observe wildlife and nature and know that as a town we are doing our bit to combat the climate emergency while also reducing the risks to our health that come with increased urbanisation and pollution.

Maidenhead Great Park will be that space! A destination for those in and around Maidenhead that will not only provide all the benefits outlined above but will also do its bit to improve the local economy.

Maidenhead Golf Course

The golf course is earmarked for development but it is not too late to show the Council that we want to keep this important piece of greenbelt land – Maidenhead Great Park. What would happen if we lost this important natural resource, which is already helping all of us by reducing pollution from local motorways and the airport?

Many of the new residents moving to our town will be without outdoor living space i.e. living in high rise apartments. People, especially children need space to explore and move around in order to stay fit and happy. It is telling that more children can already recognize symbols for fast food outlets more easily than they can the leaves of different types of trees.

What would happen to our town and our health if this amazing space is taken away?

Why we need a large open space in the town centre of Maidenhead:

Cliveden, Boulters Lock, the Look Out, Windsor Great Park and Odds Farm Park are enjoyed by many families who mostly have to drive to get there. This demonstrates several things:
1. Each of these destinations is very busy, as evidenced by the overcrowded carparks.
2. There is a massive demand for large green outdoor spaces.
3. For the large majority of people living in Maidenhead these outdoor facilities are only accessible by car.

Maidenhead Great Park will be our own wildlife woodland with outdoor activities for all ages that we can easily walk to from almost anywhere in Maidenhead - hopefully connected up by green corridors to the smaller green spaces around the town.

In addition to this Maidenhead Great Park could house a Wellbeing Centre where Health Care Professionals promote prevention rather than cure, with all sorts of health awareness initiatives and facilities to encourage healthy living; where outdoor activities for all ages are promoted such as Nordic walking, with board walks suitable for wheelchairs and prams, nature trails, woodland walks, pond dipping, bird watching, mountain biking routes, adventure playgrounds, small animal parks, tree climbing , bush craft, outdoor tai chi and yoga classes, outdoor and indoor theatres, science & ecological learning facilities for schools.

There are so many reasons to keep this amazing space. We need to charge the council to provide us with the compelling evidence to NOT do this!

People power is the only thing that will make this happen! Every single one of you is crucial in making Maidenhead Great Park a reality. You can help us to shape this park into the resource that you need it to be not only for you but for your children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, mums, dads, grandparents, aunts and uncles. This is a people’s park; by the people and for the people!

We know the world’s population will grow forever more, so it is vitally important to save green spaces and protect them for the wellbeing of future generations. We will never ever be able to recreate such a vast green space in the middle of Maidenhead again. We must all take responsibility for ensuring that this land is never developed and we must make sure that our council knows that this is what we demand.
