Crimes against small businesses to be taken more seriously by the police

There is a worrying increase in thefts aimed at small tradespeople in the Chelmsford and surrounding areas. More worryingly is the lack of response to this problem by Essex Police. It is simply unacceptable that a small company has to suffer thefts costing thousands of pounds a time and yet the Essex Police often don't even visit the crime scene to check for prints of evidence.

There is a reason that the thieves are becoming more brazen-they know the police are not investigating these incidents and have no fear of striking increasingly often.

These are small companies and thefts of tools and stock affect them hugely, putting them at risk of becoming unable to continue trading. They are not petty crimes and the police should not be treating them as such.

It is important that the local police force recognises this issue and implements strategies to lessen the frequencies of these incidents.

Why is this important?

Small companies are already under massive strains with various levies/taxes/regulations compliance costs and often only make a small profit. When thieves steal goods from them they will struggle to replace those goods, which are often essential to trade and may force them to become unemployed through no fault of their own. Small businesses need support!
