Develop the vacant site on Brixton Hill & Dumbarton Road

We call on the Council to use its powers to ensure the redevelopment of the vacant and derelict site at 186-188 Brixton Hill on the corner of Dumbarton Road to deliver much-needed housing, to include consideration of compulsory purchase.

Why is this important?

This site has been vacant for almost 20 years. Lambeth Council gave generous permission to build flats here some time ago but the landowners have not started work and have left the site derelict. The location attracts graffiti and flytipping and is an eyesore.

The site is privately owned and the Council cannot simply direct work to happen. But it does have influence and enforcement powers.

If discussion with the landowner does not yield results, the Council should consider compulsory purchase to secure and clean up the site and to get homes built as soon as possible.

How it will be delivered

This petition will be handed into Lambeth Council at its October meeting.
