Disabled Parking

In this country, disabled bays are no real help to disabled drivers. Other drivers are not penalised for parking in them - they are just "advisory".
For people with painful mobility problems, having a car close to home can be a great benefit: I requested one outside my home, and the local council eventually provided one at the end of the road. Since then, a disabled driver living nearby has used it constantly, and I rarely have the opportunity to park there. In other countries - Spain for example - disabled drivers are allocated a bay which is numbered and can only be used by the designated driver. There are of course other bays for general use, but at least this system means the person who has applied for a disabled bay outside their home can actually have access to it. Makes sense, doesn't it? Why can't we have the same system in this country? As it is, our system is nothing more than a futile gesture.

Why is this important?

Important to all disabled drivers who are unable to access accessible parking space, adding more stress and physical pain to conditions which necessitate having easy access to a vehicle.
