Don’t cost us the earth - Dual the A96 online through Inverurie

The Scottish Government have declared a Climate Change Emergency, so please act by reducing CO2 emissions on the A96 Huntly to Aberdeen dualling project by using existing infrastructure and dualling on line at Inverurie.

Why is this important?

We have a Climate Emergency and we must reduce our CO2 emissions fast. Road building especially through unspoilt agricultural land causes both loss of CO2 and a reduction in the land's ability to capture and store CO2.
So any project to improve infrastructure and connectivity should aim to cause least environmental damage.
This can be achieved by using existing infrastructure as much as possible.
Dualling the A96 online through Inverurie can be achieved without any loss of houses, will meet the project objectives, is likely to be cheaper and importantly will do 3-5 times less damage to the environment than either of the currently proposed routes. But online dualling is no longer being considered. This is unjustifiable in terms of the Climate Emergency and we call upon you to stop the current evaluation process and fully reconsider the online option.
