Don’t make a dustbin out of Clapton E5

Cancel the planned 'Waste management site' in Theydon Road area, Hackney and permanently remove this area from the list of sites being considered.

Why is this important?

I live on a quiet residential estate literally right next to the proposed site. Thousands of people live in this area adjacent to the site. We all deserve a better quality of life than to live next door to a waste dump. Our community would suffer significantly reduced quality of life because of 24/7 noise from trucks, foul smells, debris and litter from escaped trash, increased vermin, pollutants from dust and emissions.

Our residential area has a very high percentage of young children. They play outside in a quiet street and in a playground and grassy area. There is a local primary school across the street. Local children would be in constant danger from tipper trucks and lorries coming and going right next to the school entrance and residents’ children at play.

We will lose our GP surgery, chemist, supermarket, and bus route. These amenities were purposefully added by Hackney Council while the residential area was being built, and now the Council wants to take these amenities away and replace with can crushing machines and incinerators!

Here is the Draft Plan map and details for Theydon Road area from the North London Waste Authority website.

Please add your support to stop this happening!

Our residential area is a diverse multi-racial, multi-cultural mix by design. Many residents are vulnerable due to language barriers, because they are small children, or have health issues. They are not able to be vocal and contest this plan to process waste on their doorstep.

Please give them your support and your voice!

After a lengthy three and a half years wait since the public consultation ended in September 2015,
confirmation today from Archie Onslow that Theydon Road area has been removed from the list of proposed Waste Management sites.

The Waste Plan is continuing forward with a revised list of proposed sites that excludes Clapton.

Many thanks to everyone who signed this petition, attended the public meeting, spread the word on twitter and facebook, expressed concern in consultation feedback, or contributed in any way to an expression of dissent on this issue.

The objective of this campaign has now been achieved!!

All comments submitted by survey and email during consultation collated by NLWP and summarised in a report to Hackney Council. Key issues raised by residents - incorrect boundary on Plan map, area unsuitable given residential/community/retail use, proximity to school, road safety and traffic congestion - are identified in report.

Boundary and suitability issues of Theydon Road area discussed at Hackney Council meeting held this evening.

In statement prior to meeting, Hackney Council Head of Planning confirmed this report ".... includes a clear recommendation to review the Theydon Road boundary in the light of comments received. This recommendation will ensure that the next version of the Plan includes a re-drawn boundary at the very least, or perhaps delete reference to the site altogether if the re-drawn site boundary is deemed too small or too constrained by transport issues".

Decision by Hackney Council regarding Theydon Road area is expected in the New Year.

Following the recent admission by Hackney Council Planners that the Theydon Road area map is incorrect and is to be re-drawn and re-assessed, Hackney Citizen has just published this news update.

Meeting took place on 1st September between residents local to Theydon Road and officials involved in the Waste Plan (representatives from Hackney Council Planning department, NLWP, and consultants Urban Vision).

At the meeting Hackney Council admitted Theydon Road area map had been drawn with outdated information from a time when the area had been industrial and a Priority Employment Area.

Residents received an apology for the 'gross error' of having homes and local amenities described as 'industrial' according to the map, and an admission that the site 'was not properly assessed before the Draft Plan was presented to residents'.

Outcome of meeting: Hackney Council promised to draw a new map and aims to have it signed off as a matter of urgency by November 2015.
