Dudley MPs: BACK OUR KIDS

Schools and colleges were shut in a nationwide lockdown imposed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on March 23. Exams were cancelled this year because of Covid-19. Instead, teachers set students’ grades and those grades were then moderated by exam boards

Teachers had put forward predicted grades based upon work that the students had completed coupled with mock exam results. Instead the government ignored these grades and used a grading system that downgraded many student results by at least one grade meaning that many have now lost places at their chosen University.

40 per cent of teacher-predicted results were downgraded during moderation. This grading system ignores the work students have put in and assumes the judgement of teachers is wrong. Instead young people in Dudley will have their future determined by their postcode, school/college or historical data.

The fallout from the pandemic is already disadvantaging young people. If anything, this year's students deserve to be leveled up rather than leveled down. Life is difficult enough for people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and the Tories seem determined to ensure that the poverty cycle continues.

The NUS advocated how this system would be a disaster months ago and the government refused to listen.

Our petition calls on the Government to back our kids, don't judge us by our postcodes and give young people the grades they deserve!

Why is this important?

Kids in Dudley deserve to obtain the grades they have worked hard for and to not be disadvantaged.
