End the Rail Fares Rip Off
We want an assurance that they will not impose a rail fare increase until AT LEAST January 2018.
Why is this important?
We call for an assurance from Northern Rail that there will be no fare increase till 2018. In August 2016, an off-peak return from Rochdale to Manchester was £4.30, on September 3rd 2016 it increased to £4.90 and in January 2017 - it went up again to £5.40.
On average, fares have risen by 2.3% - considerably higher than inflation. Councillor Andy Kelly and local Liberal Democrats will present this to Northern Rail and Transport for Greater Manchester at the end of February.
