Erect a statue of Jim Griffiths in Llanelli

This campaign aims to recognise the huge contribution made to Welsh public life by former MP and Welsh Secretary, Jim Griffiths, by erecting a statue of him in Llanelli town centre.

Why is this important?

Jim Griffiths was Llanelli's MP for almost four decades, from 1936-1970.

He was also the first ever Secretary of State for Wales in the mid-1960s, playing a key role in the establishment of the Wales Office in London.

Despite his tireless campaigning for Llanelli and Wales, he has not been fully recognised for the statesman he was, which is something we have a duty to be doing in his local area.

This campaign aims to recognise the fantastic work of 'Jim' by calling on Llanelli Town Council and Carmarthenshire County Council to work together, as well as with any other relevant authorities, to commemorate Jim's work for our town and country by erecting a statue of him in the town centre.

For me, whose late grandmother, Meriel Ann Lewis (1929-2012), spoke so passionately about remembering Jim in Llanelli, this is an even more important personal mission.

If you are inspired by Jim's contribution to society - as a politician, a campaigner for workers' rights, and local champion - please sign the petition today in order to #CofioJim.
