2 Bear a proportion of labour costs associated with these contracts by limiting charges for services or consultancy to a maximum day rate of 43.60 per person per day (= National Living Wage)
Why is this important?
Many thousands of individuals have lost jobs or a significant part of their income. Many small business have ceased working and whole sectors (e.g. events) cannot predict when they may resume working. Meanwhile high value government contracts for personal protective equipment, Covid 19 testing services, and track and trace systems have been awarded without tendering processes to major corporations. These corporations should not opportunistically profit by this health and economic crisis. By forgoing profits and bearing a proportion of labour costs these corporations can demonstrate their social responsibility. The money released should be used by the treasury to enhance support to people, small businesses, and the social care sector for the duration of the crisis
