Why is this important?
Birds need these protections to remain in place. We have lost a huge number of our birds in recent years, scrapping the EU directives will further harm birds. Together, the EU Birds and Habitats Directives enable all the EU Member States to work together within the same strong legislative framework in order to protect the EU's most vulnerable species and habitat types across their entire natural range within the EU, irrespective of political or administrative boundaries.
