Extend the £20 uplift to Universal Credit to ALL benefits
Make the £20 uplift to Universal Credit permanent, extend it to those on legacy benefits and apply back pay to those who have been without this support for nine months.
Why is this important?
Those on legacy benefits such as ESA and PIP are no more or less worse off than those on UC, any uplifts to benefits because of the pandemic should have been applied across the board.
Many people have been put at a disadvantage over the last nine months simply because of where they were living when they applied for benefits and many of those people are disabled and already in a more stressful position because of the pandemic. They do not need further financial stress on top of this.
When asked about this Matt Hancock said that people on legacy benefits are also on Universal Credit which is absolutely not the case.
