Feethams is a Community Asset
We are calling on our MP and Darlington Borough Council to investigate the Community Interest Company (CIC) connected to Darlington Cricket Club and the Feethams Cricket Field Trust, including its governance, financial arrangements, asset transfers and community benefit.
The public has a right to understand how the assets connected with the former trust were transferred into the CIC, who controls them today, what has happened to money generated from those assets, and whether they are being used for the benefit of the wider Darlington community as intended
Why is this important?
Our Sporting Heritage. Our Community. Our Right to Know.
For generations, sport at Feethams has been part of the story of Darlington.
Land and sporting facilities became associated with a wider commitment to sport and recreation for the people of the town. Over the years, circumstances changed, land was sold and organisations and structures changed with them.
But one thing should never change:
The people of Darlington deserve to know what happened to the assets created from that sporting legacy.
Today, those assets are connected with the Community Interest Company (CIC) associated with Darlington Cricket Club and the Feethams Cricket Field Trust — CIC Registration 10030189
And that raises legitimate questions.
How were the original assets transferred? Who controls them today? What happened to money generated through the sale or development of sporting assets? What community benefit has actually been delivered? And does the current structure still reflect the purpose for which these assets were originally intended?
These are not accusations. They are questions that deserve proper, independent answers.
A CIC exists because it is supposed to serve a community purpose. Where assets have a significant sporting and community history, the public should be able to understand how those assets are governed and how the community benefits from them.
This petition is therefore asking our MP and Darlington Borough Council to support an independent examination of the CIC, its governance, financial arrangements, asset history and community benefit.
We are not asking anyone to prejudge the outcome.
We are asking for the facts to be established.
Because once community sporting assets are transferred, sold or placed into new structures, they cannot simply become a story that nobody is allowed to question.
They are part of Darlington’s heritage.
And the people of Darlington have every right to ask:
What happened to our sporting assets — and are they still serving our community?
