Fix the Warm Home Discount scam.

The problem is, the Warm Home Discount 2022 excludes many thousands of previously eligible vulnerable people. The new property-related rule excludes anyone living in flats, or small houses.

By looking at property Type, Age, and Floor area, only the oldest and largest properties are deemed to have a High Energy Cost Score, so no WHD for average or smaller properties.

My case is that the regulations were drafted and passed at a time of lower energy prices. With the cost of energy so high this winter, I am firmly convinced that ALL domestic customers, no matter what size, type or age of property have a High Energy Cost.

Many tens of thousands of disabled and vulnerable people will be surprised to find they no longer qualify.

You can prevent the cascade of illnesses from cold homes, and fuel poverty related suicides, by removing the property-related clause which cuts off the Warm Home Discount for many vulnerable people.

Why is this important?

Many tens of thousands of disabled and vulnerable people will be surprised to find they no longer qualify for the Warm Home Discount. And this year, even with the fuel discount schemes in place, those affected are paying more than double the 2021 prices used to form the new WHD rules.

The change has not been advertised, and the WHD rules are unclear. The public have been misinformed and led to believe the Government is protecting the most vulnerable from fuel poverty. The reality is not widely known, and unless changed, tens of thousands of lives will be significantly worse off.
