Because young people with drug and alcohol problems are turned away by mental health, and the two agencies do not work together even though a majority of drug and alcohol users have mental health problems .. these young people are then left without help and are let down by the system. most of the time these young people because they do not receive the treatment they so deserve they then turn to drugs and alcohol as a means of self medicating (dual diagnosis) many young people in prisons should be in hospital NOT in prision the system has failed them repeatedly. Medication and rehabilitation should be made available simultaneously for dual diagnosis especially revolving door patients.
