Fujitsu should be held to account over the Post Office Horizon scandal
Ultimately, Fujitsu are the root cause of the Post Office Horizon scandal. The bug-ridden software that the company produced for the Post Office should not have been released without being completely and meticulously tested and checked for errors in its coding before being released. Furthermore, complaints from postmasters regarding the software should have been thoroughly investigated; clearly, this has not been the case. As such, it is Fujitsu, and not the UK government, taxpayers or the Post Office, who should be making recompense and restitution to the falsely accused postmasters.
Why is this important?
As Lord Falconer has already stated, the ongoing inquiry into the scandal “needs to examine in detail the role of Fujitsu, which provided and managed the faulty software. Was Fujitsu completely unaware of the devastating effect of its actions? Should it not contribute to the compensation claims of hundreds of sub-postmasters?”
