St Michaels Lane Canal Bridge has been hit and damaged by delivery wagons numerous times in recent years. After the latest damage, the stones have been taken away as the Canals and Rivers Trust cannot afford to repair it. The signage is inadequate at both ends of this road, as wagons attempt to drive over the bridge. There needs to be improved signage, and possibly markings on the road. Also, as drivers probably follow sat navs, can this be marked as an unsuitable road?
Why is this important?
This is the 200th anniversary of the canal, which is to be celebrated this year. The bridge needs to be repaired for this, but steps need to be taken to prevent this damage happening again.
