Honour the Deal: EIS, FELA National Strike
PETITION TO SUPPORT FURTHER EDUCATION
Scotland’s college lecturers are on strike because the colleges (i.e. the employers) are seeking to reduce the quality of educational provision to students and are reneging on an agreement they made with lecturers a year ago that delivered equal pay for college lecturers.
Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister, has said that ‘This is not a dispute about pay… This is a dispute about terms and conditions, about the amount of class contact time…’
The First Minister added ‘I would encourage certainly the employers to go the extra mile to resolve this dispute.’

Why is this important?
In 2011, the Scottish government proposed to harmonise pay, terms and conditions of all FE lecturers from Dumfries and Galloway all the way to Stornoway. We call on them to honour the deal, in order to protect the integrity of education and the rights of workers throughout Scotland. This strike is not just for lecturers in FE, it is for all workers throughout Scotland who refuse to accept negative changes to their terms and conditions and unfair pay.
