Introducing a Living Rent

Introducing a Living Rent

Implement a price cap on private rents to make housing more affordable to all, to ensure private landlords can not charge extortionate levels of rent causing people to be priced out of areas they have lived in all their lives.

Why is this important?

I'm 27 and I live in Brighton, where rent on a one bed can be £650-£750 per month. On my wages this is not affordable. The same is happening all over the country. It is making it harder for young people to be independent. Also capping rents would leave more disposable income to inject into our failing economy.

Reasons for signing

  • I live in leeds and people are even being priced out of high rise flats in the city center expecting people to pay 650- 750 for a 1 bed flat!
  • I have been saying this for the past 10 years! It gets worse, not better. What is the point of hard earned cash and taxpayer-funded housing benefit all languishing in the bank accounts of greedy property owners, who half the time don't even do proper maintenance? Makes me sick.
  • Living in the south-east on a low income is becoming impossible. I worry about my rent and my future every day. When will the government give renters some protection?
