Include Hinduism also in Religious Education curriculum in all schools in the UK

Why Hinduism is dropped out of Religious Education curriculum in many UK schools?
Petition: Inclusion of Hinduism Basics in the UK Religious Education (RE) Curriculum

We, the undersigned, call upon the Department for Education, local authorities, academy trusts, and schools across the United Kingdom to ensure that the basics of Hinduism are consistently and adequately included within the Religious Education (RE) curriculum.

The United Kingdom is a proudly diverse and inclusive society that upholds equality and non-discrimination on the basis of religion or belief. Hinduism is one of the world’s oldest living religions and represents the faith of over one million people in the UK. British Hindus contribute significantly to our nation’s social, cultural, economic, and civic life.

However, it has come to our attention that in some schools, Hinduism has been reduced, marginalised, or omitted entirely from Religious Education textbooks and teaching content. This lack of representation does not reflect the religious diversity of modern Britain and risks leaving students with an incomplete understanding of world religions.

Religious Education plays a vital role in:

  • Promoting mutual respect and understanding

  • Reducing prejudice and discrimination

  • Encouraging informed dialogue between communities

  • Preparing students for life in a multicultural society

The omission of Hinduism undermines these goals and fails to provide pupils with a balanced and comprehensive education.

We therefore request that:

  1. The basics of Hindu beliefs, practices, festivals, values, and philosophical contributions be included in RE curricula across all key stages.

  2. Approved RE textbooks and resources reflect Hinduism as one of the principal religions represented in the UK.

  3. Curriculum guidance ensures fair and proportionate representation of major world religions, including Hinduism.

  4. Schools consult with recognised Hindu organisations and educational experts when developing RE materials.

An inclusive curriculum strengthens social cohesion and ensures that all children—regardless of background—see their faith and heritage treated with fairness and respect.

We urge education authorities to take immediate steps to ensure that Religious Education in the UK truly reflects the diversity and values of our society.

Sign and support equal representation in Religious Education.

Why is this important?

Hinduism is the oldest religion in the planet. Hindu children feel highly demoralized and feel inferior to others when their religion is dropped out. Other religion kids bully them due to this discriminatory drop out. Many unique features like reincarnation, conciousness etc which are topics of research will come into light if Hindu religion basics is introduced, as these are present only in this religion
