NO to settlement boundaries for Abinger Common

Please don't define settlement boundaries for Abinger Common or take any other steps to remove Abinger Common, or the surrounding land, from their Green Belt protection.

Preserve this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) for future generations of locals and visitors to enjoy.

Why is this important?

Abinger Common forms an important part of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its widely spread out clusters of dwellings set in rolling countryside are an excellent example of the openness and beauty of the ideal Green Belt settlement. It also contains a Mesolithic pit dwelling that is testament to the many centuries of human habitation.

The imposition of boundaries would facilitate the removal of Abinger Common from the Green Belt and thereby also "development in depth" of housing across an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that should be preserved for the nation to enjoy.

Great news from the Parish Council meeting last night!

The meeting concluded with a united show of hands by both villages AGAINST settlement boundaries.

For Abinger Common, we also delivered the paper petition of our residents against boundaries with over 100 signatures so far. Both sending a clear “NO” message for the Parish Council to give to Mole Valley.

Chairman Richard Frost reported that MVDC Councillor David Mir has said that MVDC won’t impose boundaries on villages where residents don’t want them. We now need to make sure our Parish Council use our clear feedback to hold Mole Valley to that undertaking.

A massive thanks to everyone who came and to all of you for your continued support.

We are over the first hurdle, but there will be more and higher ones to come. So your continued support is appreciated.

Please continue to share this petition with all who love, live in, and visit Abinger Common and and want to keep its Green Belt protection.
