Our family business Petruth Paddocks Campsite generates around £1M annual revenue for Cheddar and the surrounding area.
Owing to the Environment Agency reclassifying our land as a flood risk, Sedgemoor Council have served an enforcement notice to shut us down from next year - the land has not flooded in living memory!
We have Appealed this decision and a full Public Inquiry is due to take place in 2018 costing both us and the Council around £75,000 each!
Even Somerset's Civil Contingency Officer - the person ultimately responsible for the safety of those in Somerset has put in writing: "I am satisfied that the proposal for the continuation of use of the land for camping does not put the public at risk, provided the warning measures laid out in the report are adhered to. I have no objections to this proposal”

We have over 2000 positive reviews and last year won four awards - one even sponsored by the Council trying to shut us down!
Petruth Paddocks is an environment where kids can be kids and where the rest of us can step off the hamster-wheel of everyday life and simply chill-out - whatever that means to whoever you are but usually around a camp-fire delivered to your flap!
As a family Petruth Paddocks is our passion and vocation - it's what we were created to do and we love it! We have a wonderful team - 6 full-time and 10 part time and over 15000 customers a year - many of whom return year on year. Don't take our word for it, read what they say:
