Give BACP members the right to SPEAK before you SUSPEND them
- Give BACP members a MEANINGFUL OPPORTUNITY to challenge evidence before interim suspensions are imposed.
- Stop suspending members without giving the member an opportunity of an ORAL hearing beforehand - defence by ‘email only’ is totally unsatisfactory.
Why is this important?
I was suspended for 18 months by BACP.
At the stroke of a pen, all my income from counselling dried up. My professional reputation was severely damaged and there have been innumerable long term career consequences.
It took two years for BACP to agree that I had done NOTHING WRONG in the first place.
If this happened to me, a BACP member for over 30 years, it can just as easily happen to you.
BACP must give members the right to speak BEFORE they are suspended.
