Let’s stop the caravan & motorhome theft epidemic

We would like the police to start stopping more caravans & motorhomes when they are being towed/driven and asking for proof of ownership. We would also welcome spot checks on caravan/camping/traveller sites to verify all documents and identity markers are bonefide.

Why is this important?

In recent years, caravan & motorhome theft has become a crime of epidemic proportions. In the last 3 years, thefts have increased by 60%, with over 900 caravans being stolen during 2017 alone. They are being stolen from motorway service stations, highly secure storage compounds and from outside peoples homes. Any forms of security are removed within minutes, and trackers ripped out and left behind. As such, most of these vehicles are never to be seen again.

When these thefts are reported, there is little can be done by Police, so more often than not, a crime number is issued and that’s the end of the investigation. As such, caravan & motorhome owners would like there to be a more proactive approach to fighting these crimes. They believe this can only be done with an improved policing strategy, and help from the police services within the UK.
