LONG TERM TENANCY AND RIGHT TO BUY FOR ALL TENANT IN TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION IN THE LAST 5 YEARS

The Redbridge council have cancelled long- term tenancy and introduced and introduce a new fix term tenancy for tenant who are given a council house. They implemented this short- term solution policy to get people out of the street without thinking about its long - term impact. Families like mine have been in temporary housing issues more than 4 times. I have been on the council list for about 7 years. I think it is unfair that families that have been on the list and contributing to the development of the borough will not be granted a life term tenancy after so many years of waiting and moving within London. It's extremely unfair for families with your kids, knowing that you are in temporary accommodation and if you are moved to permanent it will only be for 10 years. What happen when the kids are teenagergoing through major transitions?,what happen to worker who don't earn enough to secure a mortgage? The new housing policy benefit only organisation and that's the council themselves. The council has began to operate like a private businesses.

The Council did an open consultation about this policy which was on-line for about 1-2 months for people to have their say about the policy. However, the consultation was on-line and not everyone was aware about this consultation. Families did not receive any letter about this new policy and it's impact on families in temporary. A consultation was just placed on-line to collect people opinion. This consultation was done in such a discrete way that we can already predict its outcome.

I want my MP to bring this issue before the parliament and re-estate long-term tenancy for families that have been on the housing list more than 5 years.

Why is this important?

It is important for our policy makers to think about families, youths and children when designing policies. Also, think about the long-term impact of this policy will have on families with low income. Economic development is beneficial however human development further help the government to produce economic stability and security. The current housing policy is a disaster to families like mine who are on low income, studying, working and in temporary accommodation with kids. The impact it has on children and relationship is terrible. Having to be in another type of fix term tenancy after moving from borough to boroughs or private to temporary is financially draining on household and future prospect. I want the council to give re-en state life-term tenancy with the right to buy for families in temporary accommodation and families on low income with kids. If the council doesn't have more home let them build more home or increase the current rent of tenant to be able to raise fund to build more homes. Cancelling life-term tenancy for young families is absolutely unfair, economic focus and damaging to community development of the borough.

Thank you
