Maidstone Matters! Objection to major housing developments ('larger villages')
Dear Maidstone Borough Council,
I am writing to you to ask that you halt the Maidstone Borough Local Plan until further investigation and considerations are made to the following crucially important points:
More research is needed and then proof given to maidstone communities that all empty homes in the town and surrounding area have been identified and earmarked to be brought back into use (or evidence that they cannot be brought back into use);
Evidence needs to be presented that all brown field sites within the town and within the existing footprint of surrounding villages have been identified for development prior to green field sites or agricultural land;
Practical measures to prevent first and mitigate second against increased levels of air pollution need to be integrated into the Local Plan;
Development of softer transport measures (walking and cycling) need greater prominence in the Local Plan ahead of developments that will increase traffic and air pollution
Any developments of 20 homes or more must include the provision of, or investment into, additional public amenities such as doctors surgeries, schools and community centres, because without this, you will be putting a huge strain on these vital services.
Yours in hope, concerned Maidstone resident

Why is this important?
If this Local Plan goes ahead as it is now, there will be a huge strain put on public services (e.g. school placements, doctor's surgeries, community centres), significant increases in air pollution, increased traffic and big losses of wildlife.
