Demanding Secure Bike Facilities at Better UK Gyms

Bike theft is a huge problem outside Better UK's Charlton Lido. The thieves are undettered by the CCTV which in some cases - has shown them using angle grinders to sucessfully remove two bike locks. This is a petition calling for Better UK to place a higher priority on protecting it's members property by installing a secure bike storage solution.

It is also important to deter these criminals, as in some cases they have been armed gangs on e-bikes that have in the past threatened staff and other cyclists who witness the events. In order to deter these criminals (and properly protect their staff and members) Better UK need to prioritise and invest in making sure the bike storage solutions are far more secure.

Options could be a secure gated bike enclosure with a code lock, or Better UK could change their policy to allow members to bring their bikes into the Lido (as they currently do with folded-up Bromptoms) and install bike racks around the perimeter of the large paved area surrounding the pool. We, the members, would like to see this issue addressed and resolved through investment in a secure bike storage solution.

Why is this important?

Better UK supports people being active, and improving their health and wellbeing. This should start by supporting members to cycle, rather than drive, to their gyms. At the moment they have posters up in the bike hangars warning members about bike thefts in the area, but they are not taking any direct action to prevent this from happening. We, the members, would like to see this issue addressed and resolved through investment in a secure bike storage solution.
