Make Trains Cheaper!
Make trains cheaper and flights more expensive; flying is so damaging to the environment!
Why is this important?
It is absolutely ridiculous that we are a first world country so committed to fighting climate change on all levels and yet it is cheaper to fly from Scotland to London than it is to get the train.
I have a friend who lives near Birmingham. She couldn't afford to get the train back to Scotland for university and instead flew, which was much cheaper. It wasn't even easier or less time consuming once she had made it to the airport, checked in, waited for the flight, boarded, flew, got through the other end and made the rest of the journey by train and bus. However, it was cheaper.
You may also have heard the story of the guy for whom it was cheaper to fly to Barcelona, spend the night and fly back to his university city than it was just to get the train.
WHY are train journeys so expensive when they should be the cheapest way to get around the country? WHY do we keep saying we're trying to improve the climate situation but are taking actions that directly affect it in more ways than one. And WHY does the government keep ignoring this?
They're in denial and it's time we took radical action to actually change the way the country functions.
