More stringent punishments needed for paedophiles.
We the undersigned are petitioning the Secretary of State to introduce more stringent punishments for crimes committed against children. For example the possession of indecent images of children, a sexual act with a child under the age of consent or grooming a child also under the age of consent should automatically receive a lengthy prison sentence and have to sign the sex offenders register for life. I.e The punishment should fit the crime.
Why is this important?
Currently crimes of that nature carry too lenient a punisnment, such as a suspended sentence in favour of a rehabilitation programme or a measly few months imprisonment which we the general public and or the survivors of such crimes feel it just isn't good enough.
Many offenders go on to re-offend showing a flagrant disregard for the law because the sentences as they currently stand are so weak that they seemingly don't act as a deterrent.
