New Romney Skatepark Needs to be Bigger

With Skateboarding recently featuring in the Olympics, New Romney Town Skatepark's popularity continues to grow with evermore local residents using the space. Even on a regular day, with cold wind and wintery weather in January/February the skatepark is overcrowded, it is missing valuable "flatground" space and "Street" Obstacles. With skaters, scooters, BMX riders and Rollerbladers often competing for space there is unnecessary tension and risk between the users as they try to make use of the park in their desired recreational disciplines. Although there is good social cohesion between the different user groups and a great sense of a supportive skating community the Town and its Local residents would greatly benefit from a larger park.

This petition is to show support and to prove that there is a genuine local need for the skatepark in New Romney to be expanded.

The new skatepark will be a free-to-use, safe, inclusive and family orientated sports facility for users of all ages. Professionally designed & constructed by a company selected by the New Romney Skatepark group with design input from local skatepark users.

Skateparks are proven to increase health, well-being and community cohesion whilst reducing social exclusion and anti-social behaviour. The skatepark will not only benefit skatepark users, it will enhance the town and will be an asset to the whole community.

It's for these reasons we feel that it is imperative we further develop the skatepark to better facilitate the need of its local users and those that travel to New Romney to make use of it. supporting the local and wider skating community of all ages for now and generations to come.

Why is this important?

With F51 being built locally in Folkestone the Worlds first multistory skatepark, let alone the Olympic's it's clear that skating popularity is going to continue to grow for many years to come and with New Romney Skatepark already becoming overcrowded its imperative we update it sooner than later to keep up with the needs of our sporting community and ensure a safe place for all to come and enjoy the recreational space available as fully as possible
