No Academisation at Willow Grove

Willow Grove Primary School provides specialist provision for children with special needs, specifically behavioural, often due to a medical condition. It does so extremely well as is, giving the children a chance where mainstream did not or could not support them. In the hands of businesses I fear this excellent school will be neglected, and it's staff and pupils with it.
One size does not fit all, and Willow Grove is no exception. It is a truly unique and excellent learning environment.

The saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Willow Grove should not be forced to become an academy.

Why is this important?

When my son was excluded from a mainstream school (because they failed to fully cater for his needs) he was at rock bottom. When he started at Willow Grove the change was immediate - my smiling, intelligent boy flourished and has almost made up for what he missed.

The headteacher is excellent. The governors are excellent. The family partnership service is a lifesaver.

Many teachers and parents are already standing against the plans, comparing the plans to back door privatisation. Our children's education is too important to entrust to corporations who often have money at the top of their agenda. The students and teachers would be the ones to suffer.

One size does not fit all, and local parents and teachers should have a say in the future of our school. Ideally I would like to see no school forced to convert, but at the very least, I would like to see my son and his friends continue to thrive in their learning environment.
