No Housing Development of Widnes Golf Club

No Housing Development of Widnes Golf Club

To stop the building of any housing development on the designated Green Space land known as Widnes Golf Club.

Why is this important?

We believe that the green space of Widnes Golf Club is extremely important in terms of making up part of the 'green lung' of Widnes. It has for many decades been a central green space in the heart of Widnes and we believe that it must remain as green space.

We have lost many of our green areas to housing development due to government planning laws. Housing development of this nature spot would have a hugely detrimental impact on the people of Kingsway Ward living nearby and also on people living across the whole of Widnes.

The traffic on Liverpool Road and Highfield Road is we feel already at capacity, to add more houses with the numbers of cars that come with those houses would increase people's travelling times, pollution and hugely increase the number of vehicles travelling near our local schools.

We are deeply concerned that building houses on this important green space would heavily impact on the pupil places available at our local schools, many of which in the nearby vicinity are already hugely over subscribed. This would then have a wider impact on families living across Widnes when seeking school places.

We urge Widnes Golf Club and their members to please think of the local community that the club has been part of for nearly 100 years. We urge Widnes resident golf club members at their Emergency General Meeting to vote against the proposals by their committee to sell the land for housing development. We urge them to think of the wide ranging impact of their vote on their fellow Widnes residents and call on them as fellow Widnesians to stop the golf club's attempts to sell this land for housing development.

*****UPDATE***** Widnes Golf Club members have voted by a majority to try to obtain planning permission to develop this Green Space. We urge them to think again and take into account the detrimental impact their decision could have on fellow Widnesians

******UPDATE****** Anwyl Construction/ Anwyl Homes have been announced as the company that will attempt to get planning permission to build a housing development on this vitally important Green Lung of Widnes. We urge them to look at the strong local opposition to any building on this designated Green Space and the long history of fierce local opposition when this has been attempted before.

If they will not, we urge Halton Borough Council to do everything in their power to stop any part of this designated Green Space land being turned into a housing development.

Reasons for signing

  • building houses on this important green space would heavily impact on the pupil places available at our local schools, many of which in the nearby vicinity are already hugely over subscribed. This would then have a wider impact on families living across Widnes when seeking school places.
  • Where are the children supposed to go to school we have Widnes children already been sent to secondary schools in Warrington and Runcorn, the traffic on the roads in Dundalk and Liverpool Road is horrendous and now the trees have gone the pollution levels will rise
  • Over crowding schools, surgeries, health centres etc will have an effect on Runcorn too!

I am hearing that Widnes Golf Club are coming close to putting in a planning application to build houses on the designated Green Space.

If/when the application goes in, as well as this petition, I will also be going door to door to get as many formal objections as possible submitted to any application to build houses on this land. If you can help with this please let me know https://www.facebook.com/CllrAndreaWall
