Objection to 161 houses Land on Pope Street, Altofts

Objection to WDH proposed development to build 161 homes on land Adjacent to Pope Street - Help Keep the Village of Altofts as a Village!!!

Why is this important?

WDH propose to build 161 homes between the M62 Church Road flyover and the railway bridge on Pope Street. This is in addition to almost 40 already being built by LSS Wakefield Ltd on Pope Street.

We object to these developments because:-

Altofts is a small village with mining heritage this development will substantially change the character of the village.

Altofts has developed along a single arterial village road a legacy narrow single through road significantly congested that carries all traffic in and out of the village.

Church Road/ Pope Street has never been widened nor can it be due to a large number of existing heritage properties.

Church Road and Pope Street is already used as a rat run for through traffic - emergency services, commuters and HGV’s to and from the euro port and container base. This despite a 7.5 tonne limit on Pope Street and formal assurances otherwise from Eurosport developers and WMD Council Planning when the Europort Development was pushed through. There are already numerous pinch points / double parking etc that reduce width to single vehicle at numerous points. Also a critical and permanent single carriage way bottle neck at each end of the village with one having a permanent 7.5 tonne limit at the railway bridge on Pope Street.

We strongly believe further development will turn Altofts into a congested, polluted and overgrown urban sprawl and will completely destroy the village character of Altofts, we believe the limit for development on Church Road and Pope Street has already been exceeded based on existing evidence of congestion and highways issues. This development and related building HGV Goods deliveries and workers vehicles causing excessive noise and disruption especially to residents adjacent to site and the Pope St railway bridge.

Existing infrastructures including highways are failing to meet current provisions and needs; Schools, Doctors Surgeries, Bus Services, Shops, Pre school places etc.

Concerns regarding air and noise pollution during the extended 4 year projected build duration, disruption to services during the project build period, concerns over local wildlife and their habitats.
