Parliamentarians vote for their self-interest

Lords and MPs should not be allowed to vote on issues from which they benefit financially or in kind, or which favour people or companies who contribute to them, their campaigns or their party.

Why is this important?

This practice is blatantly corrupt and a blight on the reputation of the "mother of parliaments".
Perhaps that phrase is meant to refer to the U.S. meaning of "mother". It should not.
