Prioritise a coordinated response to the epidemic of knife crime and deaths in London and the UK. Petition the Home Secretary Amber Rudd to immediately respond to the growing problem of knife murders and its connection to the pervasive problem of gang culture, young people's fear and need to protect themselves and the infiltration of organised crime gangs exploitation of young people.

We need consistent, long-term investment in the organisations that can really expand the work and build proper relationships with young people in London and the UK over the next ten years.

Why is this important?

In 2018, knife murders have become an epidemic and crisis in the UK. Young people are carrying knives as a means of defence, as a result of being exploited by organised crime or other complex social problems. There must be a robust response by the government as a priority in order to prevent a generation of young people's lives being destroyed.

Please share and if this petition gains a high number of signatures, the broader membership of 38 Degrees (no political affiliation), will see it highlighted on the major petitions.

The aim of this petition is not to duplicate others, rather to use the power of 38 Degrees membership and the organisation's resources to support other groups and petitions. I'm very much aware that this petition could feel meaningless, but there are models of excellence, expertise that can make a huge difference. These initiatives have suffered from a lack of funding or withdrawal of funding. Experts (like gangsline.com, ) can coordinate with appropriate support and the momentum could be now. Brooke Kinsella (http://www.benkinsella.org.uk) is working with Eastenders (English Soap) on a story about knife crime. This will obviously raise awareness of the issue and influence the wider public. There is also a merged petition here https://www.change.org/p/introduce-tyler-s-law-we-need-tougher-sentences-for-knife-crime
