Planning accountability

Dear Minister, planning officers should be held directly accountable for the decisions they make, if they are proven to be unlawful the public should have the right to sue for the damage done.

Equally, Councillors who vote against the advice of the officers, without a valid planning reason, should be personally accountable, and you should have the right to sue them for the damage their decisions cause.

Why is this important?

Corruption in planning is rife, the system can be very biased.
Currently there is no recourse to reports and advice that is clearly against the planning law, except by a very expensive legal route that the majority cannot afford.
