Protect Low Coniscliffe and Merrybent Parish from Overdevelopment

We the undersigned object to any development to the East of Gate Lane in Low Coniscliffe.

We call on Darlington Borough Council to reject/delay any decisions on development within the Parish until the completion of the Low Coniscliffe and Merrybent Neighbourhood Plan.

Why is this important?

Low Coniscliffe and Merrybent are small rural villages with open landscapes and individual character. Low Coniscliffe has an eclectic mixture of old cottages, distinctive stone walling and acts as a gateway to the River Tees for the residents of Darlington. It is vitally important that any development within the Parish should, not only be consistent within the National Planning Policy Framework, but also take into account the character of the parish and the views of the population.

Since 2011, as part of the Localism Act, communities have been empowered to create their own development plans, to be included into the Local Planning Policy. Low Coniscliffe and Merrybent Neighbourhood Plan is a community-led planning framework which will help guide any future development, regeneration and conservation of Low Coniscliffe & Merrybent Parish. The Low Coniscliffe and Merrybent Neighbourhood Plan is on target and should be completed by the beginning 2018. It is incumbent on Darlington Borough Council to take into consideration the needs of the community.

By signing our petition, you will be helping to bring this matter to the attention of the wider public and media, protect our rural environment, and to send a message to Darlington Borough Council.
