We call on the UK government to reduce the current 7-year route to settlement for children born in the UK to 3 years.
Under the existing rules, children born in the UK must live continuously in the country for seven years before they can apply for leave to remain based on their private life. We believe reducing this period to three years is more equitable and reflects the best interests of the child. It would:
