Reduction of Speed Limit at Millhouses Park (Abbeydale Road South), Sheffield

We would like to see the speed limit reduced from 40mph to 30mph, on the stretch of road between Dobcroft Avenue and the traffic lights at Abbey Lane (both carriageways).

Why is this important?

This stretch of road is in a densely populated residential area, opposite a busy park. The traffic coming from the Abbey Lane end appears to be regularly exceeding the current limit of 40mph, even as vehicles enter the 30mph zone. Our concern is that this road is very dangerous for people to cross, which may result in a serious accident.

Found out that SID (the electronic face that tells people what speed they are travelling at) has been moved to another area for now, which is why it is no longer positioned by Dobcroft Road.

Have been out collecting signatures in Millhouses Park. Positive support from most people I approached. Quite a few people suggesting speed camera which I have mentioned to councillor but have a feeling cost may mean this is not a viable option.

Spoke to Councillor Roger Davison about a week ago who has raised this issue at the Ecclesall Forum. We are meeting up to discuss further.

Contacted the police a couple of weeks ago to flag the same issue and they have noted it on their database as well.

I wrote to SCC about a month ago, to raise concerns about the speed limit along this stretch of road. SCC replied to say that they are unable to take any action at this point in time, but they have noted it on their database.
