Reintroduce the 13 week protection rule to UC
I would like the 13 week protection rule for Housing Benefit claims which entitled claimants to full rent payments for 13 weeks when losing employment as long as they have not claimed in the past 52 weeks to be reintroduced to Universal Credit claims due the impact on the Covid-19 pandemic and economic crisis we are facing. This will provide more security to those facing unemployment at this time.
Why is this important?
It is important to families facing crisis due to the pandemic and to ensure they have a protection of 13 weeks whilst they source alternative employment and avoid rent arrears which could result in eviction at a later date.
