Remove Falmouth's Rising Bollard

We call on Cornwall Council to remove the Rising Bollard at the entrance to Market Street in Falmouth, Cornwall, and allow 24/7 access to the businesses in Market Street, Church Street and Arwenack Street, and also the 168 space Church Street Car Park which is inaccessible between the hours of 1100 and 1600 daily.

Why is this important?

Falmouth needs this car park, and for it to sit almost empty and unused during peak shopping hours is a disgrace.

The removal of this bollard will also facilitate easier access for the elderly, disabled and young mums who currently have to struggle through the streets laden with shopping bags or pushing buggies.

The small car parks, such as The Moor and Well Lane are restricted on spaces, and the larger long stay car parks such as Grove Place and Town Quarry which are situated at either end of the town, are not that accessible if you have baggage or mobility problems.

Local Businesses want it removed, and so do locals.

Please help keep the High Streets of Falmouth alive, and support local traders.

There are now paper copies of this Petition in a couple of shops in Falmouth Town Centre, please encourage your friends and neighbours who might not have internet access to sign these if possible.

Mr Ragamuffins in Church Street, and also Oceana Jewellers in St Georges Arcade.

Please keep up the momentum, as we're over 700 signatures now. It would be lovely to reach the magic 1000

Let's not forget, on the 17th November 2024 (when the bollard was in it's old position, outside The Grapes), an Ambulance, whilst on a Blue Light Run was stopped by the bollard, and had to do a U-turn to exit the one-way system in the town.

If it was your friend or family, taken ill in the town centre, would you be prepared to wait whilst an alternative route was taken ?

So in a little under 24hrs, it's reached 111 signatures - thank you to each & everyone of you that have signed & shared.

Falmouth Town Council have stated that Cornwall Council need at least 250 signatures (see post @ https://www.falmouthpacket.co.uk/news/26279707.falmouth-traders-petition-rising-bollard-blocked/)

There's approx. 20,000 residents in Falmouth, so I'm sure we can get a few more !
