Remove the word 'entertain' from the BBC's mission to 'inform, educate and entertain'.

The BBC is an excellent, impartial public service. However, I firmly believe its purpose should be to simply inform and educate.

When we, the public, are forced to pay for it, is there really any need for 'entertaining' programmes that the private sector would quickly step in to fill the void? For example not everyone wants to pay for Eastenders.

I'm thinking particularly of sports, soaps, etc. These will always get coverage without us being forced to pay for them. For example, people still watched the Premiership when it was free to view on ITV.

I also think this would reduce the burden on the BBC's finances.

Why is this important?
