Rescue Lanes on multi lane roads
Change the Highway Code so that creating a rescue lane on multi lane roads becomes mandatory.
Why is this important?
Currently emergency vehicles are forced to use the hard shoulder if they come to the end of a queue or gridlocked road. However, there is no guarantee that the hard shoulder is free/safe to use. A stranded/broken down vehicle could easily be in the path and delay urgent required help.
A simple change as seen on the continent would ease that journey. Vehicle on the right lane move further right towards the central reservation, the other lane(s) move to the left and create thereby a lane for emergency vehicles to pass through.
