Return Eagle House to the community

We, the undersigned, are calling for:
1) Eagle House to be returned to the community when the current lease expires in May 2026, as was promised.
2) The local community to be fully involved in deciding the future of the building and how it is used.
3) The council to register Eagle House as an ‘Asset of Community Value’.

Why is this important?
Eagle House Youth Club was shut down in 2014 before being leased to a church, which have the building until May 2026. Throughout this time, residents have been clear they want the building returned to community use.
The Green Party promised that if they were elected, they would return Eagle House to the local community within six months of taking office.
Eleven months after being elected, they’re reneging on this commitment and are instead looking to demolish the building entirely. This is extremely disappointing – there are no ‘unforeseen legal barriers’ with returning the building to the community when the church's tenancy expires.
At the same time, the council has been selling its assets across Bristol. We worry that Eagle House may be the next to be auctioned off, leaving nothing for the community.
Eagle House is located in an area of high deprivation, where community spaces are more important than ever for the role they play in supporting people.
Local residents need to have a say in the future of Eagle House. Any plans for its future need to be designed with them – they cannot be an afterthought. We need the council to work with communities, not impose their plans upon them.
