Reverse the Walcot, Snow Hill and Claremont Road RPZ decision

Many Bath residents are incensed by the undemocratic decision taken by B&NES Council to approve the imposition of a Residents’ Parking Zone for the Walcot, Snow Hill and Claremont Road neighbourhood despite a clear majority of respondents to two separate consultations objecting to its introduction.

70% is a group of residents founded in January 2023 after Bath and North East Somerset Council notified its intention to impose a Residents’ Parking Zone (RPZ) on Walcot residents despite objections by 70% of the respondents to consultation.

70% demand that B&NES Council follows its own guidelines and reverses the RPZ decision in the name of local democracy.

Why is this important?

B&NES Council has ignored its own guidance and rule book as to how RPZ consultations should be conducted and how the results should be assessed.

Neither of the 2 public consultations achieved the 40% support for the RPZ required under the Council's own rules to proceed and yet The Council has chosen to ignore this and go ahead anyway.

70% need your support even if you don't live in the proposed Zone. RPZs are just the start. Liveable and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods will inevitably follow on with road closures, traffic filters with restrictions and disruptions to travel affecting the whole of Bath.

70% believes that The Council is deliberatlely concealing the full impact of these plans as they attempt to sleepwalk us all to their vision of our future.

Overtunring the imposition of Walcot RPZ will send a clear message to The Council to stop playing with the everyday lives of Bath people.

It's time to draw a line in the sand. This RPZ decision must be reversed in the name of local democracy.
