Right to Light

Join a nationwide campaign to get the councils who have implemented the streetlight switch off policy, to think again and consider adopting the safer, fairer and more environmentally friendly system, of LEDs with a central management system, allowing dimming at quieter times. This meets the council's economic needs whilst maintaining the safety and security required for residents and road users.

The blackouts/curfews imposed upon us by our councils are not in our best interests, we pay for this most basic of service, it was taken from us without our knowledge or consent please help to get it restored.

Why is this important?

Streetlights were introduced for our safety, society hasn't got safer, it is a basic necessity in the modern world, to take this away from us, after large cuts to our police force is a very irresponsible act.

I have been fighting for streetlights in my town of Gravesend for 6 months now, ever since the engineers installed sensors switching them off. It has been a long battle, a local petition has reached 2,200 signatures and has sparked a full council debate on 30 September. There is a KCC e-petition and paper based petition for the residents of Kent, which is accumulating signatures fast.

I have created this petition to go nationwide as it is a big issue across the country, everyone has a right to light and a right to safety the more signatures we gain the louder our voice.

I attach an article of myself at county hall, a full counsel debate was held, the KCC refused a UKIP motion to review the policy and switch the lights back on whilst the review is undertaken. Please sign everyone bring back our safety.
