Rosedene Rescue

Rosedene is a rescue centre based in Walsall in the West Midlands.

Several years ago they were shut down by the RSPCA due to the terrible conditions, several dogs deemed to be aggressive were killed.

Conditions remain atrocious, vet treatment is non existent, dogs are shut in tiny kennels often left surrounded by their own excrement. Over the past few months a team of volunteers have been working to get the dogs out safely. Dogs are coming out damaged and sick but they are now all out thanks to a mammoth, coordinated team effort involving a number of rescues and charities. We have successfully removed 21 dogs to safe environments where they will receive the love and care they deserve.

Due to the aggression that many dogs developed during their time at Rosedene as a team we took the decision not to involve the RSPCA until the dogs that needed to be were safe. These dogs would be deemed unsuitable for rehoming and we believe they would have been destroyed.

We now have all the dogs in a safe place, our next step is to get Rosedene closed permanently. We have dtrong evidence that ALL dogs were suffering from some sort of infection that was left untreated and ignored. Whilst the dogs were still there we secretly got feaces tested to ensure we weren’t going to put any other animals or humans at risk by removing the dogs. All dogs are now receiving treatment.

We require urgent help with funding the care of these dogs, there is a collaborative effort from several groups helping but we anticipate costs to run into thousands of pounds. We have placed the last 12 dogs into emergency boarding at a cost of £595 per week, in addition all require vet treatment, many are unvaccinated and not neutered, and some require specialised food. Please see below the link to the justgiving page being used to help these poor dogs.

We fully expect a backlash from supporters of Rosedene and will say only this, as rescues we would never want to shut down another rescue but Rosedene is not a rescue, it’s a disgusting, disgraceful place where dogs have been used purely to make money. We will not rest until action is taken prevent any more dogs suffering. We considered every option and even offered to raise funds to clean up and send in other rescues to help manage it. This was ultimately our last and only resort.

We aim to be as transparent as possible and since opening our page on facebook The Rosedene 12 we have received a huge response, our inbox is full of horror stories.

We have also found out you have been receiving reports for years, you have ALLOWED this to happen. WHY?

What is your policy for allowing kennels to open without the correct licence to do so? These dogs have been suffering so badly and you have closed your eyes? The place is infested with rats, your environment department has received so many complaints from concerned volunteers, again you have done NOTHING!

This place is a danger to the public, the young children who visit the site with rat urine and dropping everywhere. Dead dogs buried, food lay rotting, dogs denied worming and flea treatment with thousands of pounds donated by the concerned public of YOUR BOROUGH!

Let's make sure this doesn't happen again, let's make sure this is the last time dogs are subjected to this failure by this despicable place.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

Why is this important?

DOGS HAVE DIED PAINFUL DEATHS, SO SCARED IN THEIR KENNELS THEY HAVE BECOME AGGRESSIVE, NO HEATING IN MINUS TEMPERATURES, RATS EATING EACH OTHER IN OLD ILLEGAL TRAPS, BODIES BURIED, INFESTED WITH RATS, DOGS WITH SEVERE ILLNESSES BEING WALKED IN PUBLIC PASSING ON TO OTHER DOGS, DOGS ADOPTED THE SAME DAY THEY GO IN TO PEOPLE WITH YOUNG CHILDREN AND VICIOUSLY BITING PEOPLE..........THIS IS ROSEDENE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!!!!

Reasons for signing

  • Been to this disgusting so called rescue. So when I got there I was saying to one worker about the dirty conditions they was keeping the dogs in and got attacked by one of them so I pushed her away from me and told her don't touch me at that all the other workers had to hold this woman back so I just got in my car and drove away abit angry and feeling even more sorry for the animals in their care tried to report this but it fell on deaf ears but thank God someone is helping these animals
  • It's important for all animals to have a safe enviroment and if the rehoming centre is bad then it should be forced to close.
  • The owner of this place never has and never will care about the dogs. They are just money to him. They are freezing in the winter, in dangerous cages with only donations to keep them alive. I had to pay out of my own pocket when I was a volunteer to get the roof fixed because 4 of the kennels had water pouring in. The volunteers tried their best but not another dog should be forced to suffer here. KEEP IT CLOSED!!!
