Rishi Sunak: Fund Green Policies Now
Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson must commit to properly funding green policies now and not delay any longer. The recent IPCC report is clear: the devastation of extreme climate change is on our doorstep and we can not procrastinate on implementing net zero and climate considered policies any further.
A number of essential policies for achieving net zero emissions have been removed, diluted or delayed such as scrapping the green homes insulation scheme and slashing electric car incentives.
The treasury is also considering cutting passenger duty to encourage more domestic flights while making above inflation train fare increases.
The treasury has the power to veto funding for other departments. The transport strategy failed to back road pricing (charges levied for road use by users) a key component to reducing emissions. It is not enough to talk of the importance of achieving net zero emissions while failing to implement the necessary changes.
The idea that costs for these policies are too high now does not hold weight against the cost of what we will pay if we delay.
This government has a chance to lead on the world stage at the upcoming COP26 and we urgently need real action and investment on our domestic green policies and investments now.

Why is this important?
Devastating and extreme weather is already here. The recently released Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report is clear that we need to enact net zero policies immediately to prevent further warming of the earth. Further warming will make this extreme weather much worse with accompanying sea level rises and mass species extinction.
