KEEP HEARTLANDS, POOL, CORNWALL OPEN
Keep Heartlands Open
Why is this important?
Heartlands in Cornwall is a visitor attraction and a huge open space that is imperative for health & mental well being within the local community. It has been failed over the last 11 years by the 'trustees' who have not been fit to be in their positions for so long.
Over the last few years they have turned the site into primarily corporate events, not catering for the poor community of the area and as soon as South Crofty Mine started to advance it would appear that the Heartlands Trustees lost interest in their responsibilities to Heartlands and are fully supporting South Crofty Mine instead.
Heartlands is a site of local, national and global interest, the mining industry played a major part of Cornwall's history, and eventually the miners took their expertise across the globe.
It is criminal that the Trustees of Heartlands have released a statement saying that the site will be closed and I strongly believe that if they failed in their management of this position.
Heartlands desperately needs help to bring this site up to a standard that reflects the historic value of the miners industry and other historical local famous people's involvement , that can also be utilised as a family community space, that is able to host music events and theatre productions, maybe an observatory as the light pollution is low, where there is an entertainments manager to encourage foot fall to help raise monies to help keep the site running and a transparent board of community elected trustees that have the site and the local community's (families) best interests at heart, that announce public meetings on a regular basis, which has been lacking over the last 11 years, with the opportunity for the local people to elect the people that they think will benefit the site, but also that enables the public to see where the money is going and contribute ideas for what they would like to see on or around the site, whether it be seasonal themed attractions, education for the local & visiting children or for entertainment for families and visitors.
I am only one voice but I know how important this site has been to so many others, a huge amount of people volunteered to help with different events over the years because they wanted to encourage interest in the site, so that it could be the 'go to' site in Cornwall, to host family events and grow a sense of community back to the area, to help generate pride in their history and their neighbourhood and feel that they were worthy, appreciated and had a sense of belonging, a part of something for all ages, embracing the asset that is Heartlands, a site with such a lot of potential that would make the Cornish proud and not feel so forgotten.
